Money Anyone?

Greetings from Hayward, WI

This week we had a good meeting with local lenders, Angie and Gloria, from Johnson Bank. The good news is that mortgage rates continue to remain low and there is plenty of money available to loan. In addition to that, there are several good first-time home owner loan packages, second-home owner packages and vacant waterfront land monies available. Obviously, one needs to have good credit.

Fortunately, Sawyer County is blessed with great lenders who have solid portfolios and continue to perform well. However, our government must do something to relax the mark-to-market accounting as lenders need the ability to lend for the mortgage and housing industry to recover and thrive. It's really vital to the economy.

The housing market is soft but our local residential property market and economy are faring better than national trends. At the same time it appears that the local existing housing market and home values are remaining fairly stable. If you're building, the good news is that construction pricing is at rock-bottom lows and qualified builders are available.

Next week 2008 Q4 home sales data for Wisconsin and our area should be available so I'll be able to report the latest numbers for last year.

This is a big weekend as the Lions 27th Pre-Birkie ski race kicks off tomorrow at 10:00 am; join us for the fun! I'll be at Mosquito Brook cheering on the racers and handing out goodies.

Life is a Gift…Live It!
